I help people make sense of what’s going on in their lives, process difficult feelings and change things that aren’t working. I’m Jo Wood, a BACP Accredited Psychotherapist, Supervisor and EMDR practitioner. I work with people just like you.
If you’re seeking therapy, whether it’s single session, short term solutions focussed or long term, I can meet with you confidentially at my office in the centre of Hebden Bridge. If you’re not local to my practice that’s no problem at all because I can meet with you via Google Meet, I work nationally and Internationally across all time zones.
People come to me when they are experiencing symptoms of stress and anxiety, depression, panic attacks, phobias, PTSD, eating disorders and disordered eating, sleep problems, nightmares, addictions, grief and loss, betrayal, relationship difficulties, attachment difficulties, low self esteem and low self confidence. Whether we are working together long term or short term, you’ll be met with warmth, friendliness and respect.
Have you struggled with the same problem, on and off, for years? Maybe you kept hoping that it would go away on its own, but it didn’t, and it continues to trouble you today. There is no need to struggle on by yourself.
Is a current situation in your life bringing up difficult feelings, or frustrations? Maybe there are behaviours that concern you and you can’t figure out how to deal with them, and it’s negatively affecting both you and the people you care about.
Maybe you’re experiencing something new and uncomfortable? perhaps your usual ways of coping aren’t working as well as they used to.
It’s hard to feel ok in the world–or even in your own skin–when you’re triggered by memories, feelings or thoughts that could be rooted in the past.
There is hope for positive change even when it hasn’t happened before. You don’t have to deal with things alone. Although there is no true ‘normal’ for everyone, if what’s happening doesn’t feel right, then trust your gut and seek support.

“Thank you! I honestly don’t think I would have been so calm and grounded during this if we hadn’t done the last few weeks.” T.
You might have a little (or not so little) voice whispering ‘leave things alone’. It’s there to keep you safe but safe just means small and invisible and that just means you’ll keep on pushing through life, just like you always have. Hoping and wanting something to change. But nothing will change long term until you decide to change something. (sorry, not sorry!) Whilst pushing through might be an OK short term solution if you need to get yourself out of a tricky spot, as a long term approach it can lead to burnout, relationship breakdown and physical illness. Change can feel scary at first but nothing will change if you do nothing to change it. And what if it’s actually not as bad as you feared? And what if you learn a thing or two about yourself on the way? Remember, you’re not on your own. I can help you understand why you do what you do so that you can decide whether you want to change it.
